This thesis is a summary of my three years graduate study. The chapter one is aboutthe research about Paste-up. The original definition of paste-up in the19th century restson the level of collage and sticky technique. Through thecomparative studybetween eastern and western composition of a picture, and also comparedwith cubism, futurism, Dadaism surrealism, and the relationship between pop artand paste-up. Focuses on the exploration of the collage in composition, with collagecomposition arising from the new visual effects and observation, to explore theown composition, and collage application incomposition, and my own views on collagecomposition. In the chapter two is the exploration about paint technique, through theanalysis of the paint technique, mainly discusses the two trends of focusing on the shapeandChinese ink painting, represented by Jiang Zhaohe’s works which focusonshape of figure painting by ink, and depending on his works, develop a productionprocess that utilized traditional Chinese flower and bird painting on figurepainting. Compared with Chao Hai’s paintings and analysis specifically, finally dida summary in my own creative practice. Chapter three discusseshow to handlethe distribution of the black and white in picture. In Chinese painting, there has two basicelements: black and white, both of them are interdependent, indispensable. Theyconstitute the basic characteristics of Chinese painting. China is the only country whichplace black and white aboveother color, Today is a period of blending between Chineseand Western culture, this feature is worthy for us to study well and inherit. Atlast I’ll analysisthe "peep" of Chen Laolian’s sketch in details, using my own analysis toguide the relationship between black and white in the work.
