In the feudal era China, women and children have been oppressed and bullied bythe feudal ethics. Until the May Fourth Period, enlightenment pioneer weredissatisfied with the unjust status in society of women and children, in which ZuorenZhou was an outstanding one. The works of Zuoren Zhou involving women andchildren were plentiful, which were an important part of the trend of the liberation ofhumanity during the May Fourth Period. Meanwhile, the contradictory and complexduality grid mottled thought of Zuoren Zhou determined that his ideas of women andchildren should not be single and simple in the background of mainstream. In fact, itis the multidimensional symbiosis of enlightenment and beyond the Enlightenment.Despite numerous investigations in this area for a long time and many excellentstudies being carried out, there is lack of this complexity. This study about thecomplexity of women and children view of Zuoren Zhou may make a contribution tothis field.This thesis is divided into four chapters to discuss.Chapter one: A study of Zuoren Zhou’s view of women and childrenenlightenment background. The enlightenment background of Zuoren Zhou’s womenand children views. This chapter briefly introduced the enlightenment background ofZuoren Zhou’s women and children views. The long feudal oppression makes groupsof women and children tortured. During the May Fourth Period, lofty ideals began tore-examine a new perspective view of women and children. In such a social context ofenlightenment, Zuoren Zhou held "Praising children and having pity on women"andpay attention to the study of the vulnerable groups of women and children. As a result,he reformed and reconstructed the ideological and cultural structure of the incompletebackward. For women, he cries of "sexual liberation and economic liberation". Forchildren, he advocated "children’s selfish departmentalism". Therefore, the formationof Zuoren Zhou’s complex and unique concept of women and children incarnatedenlightenment fallacy. Chapter two: We discussed the concept of content and performance of Zuoren’sviews on women and children beyond Enlightenment. Zuoren Zhou’s women andchildren views were beyond enlightenment. Zuoren Zhou interpreted women from the perspective oflives. He advocated the release of women’s freedom and assertive vitality, calling fora healthier and better life in the form of women. Similarly, Zuoren Zhou re-interpretedthe group of children from the perspective of life, treating them as health and naturalform of ideal life.Chapter three: Further revealing the complex representation and rich culturalorigin of Zuoren Zhou’s views on women and children. This chapter discussed thespecific performance of the complexity of Zuoren Zhou’s views on women andchildren. Zhou Zuoren’s view of women and children is the embodiment of his viewof life. According that Zuoren Zhou has a strong sense of life, his life understandingand perception have surpassed him at the age of Enlightenment. The formation ofZuoren Zhou’s views on women and children can be traced back to the customs andhumanities in childhood. In the influence of Chinese traditional, Confucianism culture,Greek culture, the doctrine of the mean and Ellis thoughts, Zuoren Zhou hasdeveloped the doctrine of the mean as the dominant mode of thinking. He focused ona more comprehensive perspective lives, rather than blindly pursued the road toenlightenment one-sided. During the May Fourth Period of cultural exchange process,students in Japan, including Zuoren Zhou, are mainly affected by the advocateindividualism and respect the value of life Taisho culture. In the social model of theJapanese, the influence of culture provides a framework for reference and the model ideal for exploring life of Zuoren Zhou.Chapter four: Analysis of how to deepen in the research of Zuoren Zhou’s viewson the complexity of women and children. This chapter investigated the value andsignificance of the complexity research of Zuoren Zhou’s views on women andchildren. The study of the complexity of Zuoren Zhou’s views of women and childrencan not be carried out without the complicated cultural background attention, miningand exploration. Only attaching importance to the study on writer’s complex culturalbackground, we can understand the real implication behind the multiplecontradictions. Ideology under the limit of either this or that tends to make the studyof Zuoren Zhou’s works on women and children, the views beyond were ignored.Therefore, researchers need to overcome the tendency of ideology in literary studies,attach importance to the value of complex literary research object, and focus on themultidimensional space of women and children views of Zuoren Zhou.In conclusion, this research was performed from the relevant themes of ZuorenZhou works on women and children. By studying producing source of complexity andvalue significance, we provided a new angle of view and an academic path to ZuorenZhou’s works.
