A Research On Zhou Zuoren's Translation Of Japanese Literature

Most Chinese writers of the first half of the twentieth century, because of the historical discourse which undertakes great transformations and revolutions, have a common wish of expressing. The first contact with the new knowledge, the strong sense of accepting fresh blood and the temporary incompetence of thinking forces them to write and translate books alternately for satisfying their need of expressing and relieving. This paper is intended to make a rough survey of the Japanese literary works translated by Zhou Zuoren and to explore the translation works' meaning in literary history as well as the contributions made by them from the perspective of literary translation. This paper will start from the translation of the Collection of Overseas Novels and will then in turn expound Zhou Zuoren's translating of the Japanese modern literary works as well as of the Japanese short poems, PaiJu (a kind of short Japanese poem consisting of seventeen characters) and classic Japanese literary works chronically.In the last chapters, this paper will from the perspective of the import and application of 'literal translating method', of the deepening and enriching of the connotation of Chinese new literature, of the constructing of the Japanese culture view and of the contributions to the development of Chinese children literature, demonstrate the special contributions made by Zhou Zuoren to the development of Chinese literary This paper attempts to prove that in the special discourse of the twentieth century and in the phase that new literature was young and being built, the translations made by the writers and thinking are not only import, but export; not only introduction, but re-creation. Translation and writing are the two wings by which Zhou Zuoren expressed his thoughts and feelings.This paper starts with the translation of the Japanese literary works by Zhou and discusses about Zhou's literary views, the changing of his literary attitude and his insistence on the true qualities of literature. Through the comprehensive analysis of Zhou's translation, literary theory and literary creation in the enlightening period, this paper attempts to prove that three aspects for Zhou are intertextual, interproving and interactive.
