There are many differences between music education in ancient Chinaand that in China today in the aspects of nature, purpose, significance.Ancient music has a tight bond with politics,morality,and ethic, whereasmusic today can be regarded as aesthetic cognitive music, or as theexistence of the aesthetic object (That is: the music is equal to the fineart).The detailed and abundant ancient Chinese music record can be seen inRites of Zhou, Etiquette, Book of Rites (collectively, the "Three Rites").In this paper, the historic materials in "Three Rites" has shaped the musicethic connotation and its significance in the discussion of the conceptsimilarities and differences, music ethic connotation, the purpose andsignificance of subject research, and its current research status betweenancient music and music today.The shaping of music ethic thoughts in "Three Rites" can be seen inthe first chapter, including the origin of ancient music ethic education,social factors and specific implementation. To probe the value of the musicethic education is to cultivate the value of music ethic education fromthe perspectives of life ethic, ritual ethic, and political ethic in thesecond chapter.The discussion on the significance and reflect on the ethic educationof ancient music can be seen in the third chapter in terms of pedagogy,politics and sociology in order to explore the significance of ancient musicethic education. In epilogue, the author has reflection on the lack of ethiceducation in contemporary music education, and put forward some preliminaryrecommendations."Three Rites" in the music ethic connotation is extremely rich, whichcan be regarded as the abundant reference resources to the education ofmusic today. The significance and the value of music ethic can be cultivatedin this thesis by the research approach of the combination of music pedagogy,music history, and music philology so as to offer a reference on musiceducation today.
