On Western Music Under The View Of Historical Philosophy

The research on western music has been carried out for more than a centuryin China. Chinese musicology circle’s concern was mostly concentrated on thestudy of specific aspects of western music Creation, and has made greatcontributions in this regard. But the study on the nature of western music thatbased on the exploration of the philosophy of history in western music historyfacts is scarce. The work of this thesis is to find the underlying rules ofdevelopment of western music history, interpret the facts of western musichistory, explain what significance and life of western music has been givenby the humanistic values and intrinsic motivation in itself,reveal the essenceof western music culture. This thesis has four chapters: the first chapter isto show that western music is not westerners’ music, but especially “artmusic”. the second chapter elaborates it as the result of western musicalculture to the “people” attention that western music has undergone adevelopment process of continuously enrich the genre, creative contents andmusical concept. the third chapter points out that the science rationality hasplayed a important role in the development of western music as a cultural system.The fourth chapter describes that the universal spirit of western music has madeitself continuous diffusion, made it beyond the boundaries of national, state,regional, shared by the world of art music form. The author’ elaborations tocultural essence of western music not only for reflection and study on theontology of western music, but more importantly, philosophical reflection baseon a historical attitude to the whole cultural history of western music, andtry to explore the way of history, want a better and more accurate representationfor true knowledge and understanding of western music.
