Mosque education is the traditional religious education mode of Islam in China. Since the late Qing Dynasty and Republic of China, Cangzhou, of Hebei Province had been become the traditional Islamic Mosque Education Center in the Northern and the Northeastern China. Cangzhou became the center of Shandong School in the Northern China in the Emperor Kangxi’s reign. After one hundred years of steady development, the imams, such as Li Zhengguang, Hai Situ, recovered the Chinese style of study in the modern times, and trained the Three Outstanding Islamic Scholars in the Northern China and Imam Wang Jingzhai and other talents, which surpassed Shandong in terms of the personnel training and the Chinese translation at that time, and became the center for the later stage of Shandong School. The mosque Education influenced the territory of the Northern and Northeastern China, centered in Cangzhou and covering Tianjin and some Northern counties of Shandong Province. The mosque education in Cangzhou was demolished in the period of the Religious Reform and the Cultural Revolution, but it was recovered and achieved a certain development in the 1980s. Since the twenty-first Century, under the impact of secularization, there appear the phenomena of decrease of students, waste in teaching resources and the decline of the mousques, and some Imams and believers are struggling to explore a way to the revival of the Mosque Education.
