Dance is a spiritual activity created by human beings, and it is combined time, space, power and beauty. Dance activity is highly associated with culture and society. Especially dance forms which rooted in community and countryside. On the one hand, the generation and development of dance art form related with its ecological environment; on the other hand, the long historical cultural elements are also important to the generation of dance form. Thereby, the interpretation and explanation of "Gangshen" ritual needs to be incorporated into relevant ecological, historical and cultural contexts. The dissertation is focusing on discussions of the relevance between the cultural contexts and its language symbolic meaning."Gangshen" ritual of Duangong dance is the dissertation mainly talk about, which is located in Jinshan area of today’s Hubei Province and also is important intangible cultural heritage. Through the analysis of ecological element, historical element and its similarities and differences between "Gangshen" and Qu Yuan’s《Nine Songs》, to interpret the important dance forms of the ritual——dance styles, footwork, hand tactics and its formation, all the forms with original and strong folk religious dance body language and aesthetic implications. The generation and discussion of dance forms and meanings of body language needs to depend on the folk contexts and cultural customs. The author aims to get the conclusion that "Gangshen" is under the structure of conditions of local ecological environment, geospatial, religious beliefs, ritual phenomenon and aesthetic perception co-created and save with local person, instead of separately analyze the use of language and multimodality in it, the dissertation emphasize on discussion which put all the language and symbols as a whole ritual system.The structure of dissertation is introduction in the beginning and the end with conclusion. The introduction focusing on interpretation of research significance and research purpose, the domestic and abroad status, research theory and research methods. The main parts of dissertation wrote from ecological elements of fieldwork observation in Xuepin town of Nanzhang, on the basis of generation, development and its characteristics of "Gangshen" deeply rely on its district environment and historical status. Then about the analysis of "Gangshen" ritual, from the ritual host, the polytheism conception of ritual, finally settled into the dance art form and expression, from the dance form’s public features interpretation to its detail and specific footwork, hand tactics, dance formation. "Gangshen" as a fork art form radiated by "Witch-God cultural circle" of Jinshan and Chu dynasty area, deity and worship is local people’s unique folk custom and religion in its historical and cultural process. So we should focusing on the body expression under the ritual context, trying to consider the original art and culture in a new perspective and breakthrough thought, explaining the deep metaphor and cultural functions of form, ecology and history in "Gangshen".Overall, the dissertation seek to not confine within the perspective and theoretical range of dance disciplines, integrated and analyzed material of "Gangshen" ritual with multidisciplinary theoretical paradigms. The purpose is to inspect its dance language and meaning generation process into whole ritual system, deeply describe the situational and cultural context which the ritual really belongs to, hoping to get objective interpretation and conclusion which meet the local’s social behavior and cultural logic.
