This paper manly discusses the influence and significance of sketch, as a painting language,towards,we want to combine their own painting, linearity sketch in Chinese figure painting apart from some complex external factors such as background, age and nation.Then considerating and exploring "line",as a modeling language existed alone in Chinese freehand brushwork painting.There are two voices about the modeling foundation of traditional Chinese painting freehand brushwork in traditional Chinese characters,one is the western sketch training course weaken the expressive force of the traditional Chinese painting, some students cultivated by western sketch teaching system are simply sketch with the writing brush when they are creating Chinese freehand figure painting losing the sense of pen and ink brush which makes the change of the ink is not obvious, simply focus on the accuracy of modeling and structure blindly shaping the strereo feeling.A variety of reasons cause Chinese figure ink painting gradually lost their traditional flavor,and deviated from the essence of Chinese painting -"freehand brushwork" which has a great influence on inheritance of Chinese painting some scholars even suggest canceling the sketch course in traditional Chinese painting modeling. Another voice, on the other hand,is that western sketch basic training, in a certain extent, promote the development of Chinese painting freehand brushwork in traditional Chinese characters,it broke the traditional Chinese figure painting monotonous routine style, and injected a new language for the Chinese freehand brushwork figure painting, enriching the expression forms of Chinese figure painting.These voices, are self-esteem, or resistance, or disdain, which aimed at a "sketch" a kind of painting form, but not the sketch itself.The problem is people’s attitude towards sketch, which is very simple. The historical and cultural background when sketch got into China, there is extreme nationalism mood, and national pride. of course, with China’s rise, it turns to be open and free no matter support or not, so we should pay attention to be influence of sketch to the traditional Chinese painting,regardless of background, age, national and all of these external factors getting back to painting itself is what is we have to do first.Chinese ink figure painting is relatively late-maturing, it is carried forward by Liang Kai in after fine brushwork figure painting becoming mature song dynasty, but it also has been stalled.Until nearly 100 years,there are a lot of people exploring Chinese ink figure painting and also there is battle over the pen and ink, all the arguments about traditional Chinese painting in the 20th century is about "pen and ink" and "shape", when we make the sketch more deeper and more exquisite, the unique linearity of line and the traditional ink language in Chinese painting art unable to display, this is the conflit between western realistic modeling and the abstracction of Oriental ink.This article will discuss the development of painting in the east and west, by exploring the commonness and difference between the two different kinds of art, looking forward the direction of art by reviewing the history.It is inevitable to learn from each other.There is a long way to go on how to learn and integrate from each other.
