Tibetan writer A Lai’s novel<King Gesa> rewrites the world famous Tibetan epic of King Gesa. The writer has a clear creative motivation that he wants to make people comprehend the real Tibetan culture, other than confused by the illusion that Tibetan culture is all about religion. The epic of King Gesa is significant not only in Tibetan history of literature, but also has a prominent position in the daily life of Tibetan. This is the reason why the writer choose this epic to rewrite to realize cultural expression. To compare the novel and the epic, we can observe the writer’s motivation and his attitude towards the culture of his own nation. The theme and expression of the novel is actually different from the epic, although the writer emphasizes that he has a deep admiration of the epic and want to let more people know the epic by reading his novel. The way the writer rewrites the epic and the difference between the novel and the epic is the purpose of this study. The other key point of this study is to investigate how the writers of the minorities express their culture, and how literary reflects this motive of the writers.
