On John Cage 's Thought And Creation Of Radical Music

In the Twentieth Century, John Cage has always been the avant-garde who’s on the cusp. And he is a leader having the radical musical thoughts. His works having been suffering from controversy constantly, but his music creation also pushes forward the music of the Twentieth Century. He pursues the ultimate sound, then takes ”silence” as material in the works; He was almost obsessed with the “changes” in ”book of changes ” in order to get chance and uncertainties; He has been going furthest in the creation thought reforms for telling people there’s no boundary between life and music, so that it can move all the musicians rethinking the original purpose of creation. He is the one who has the most influential musicians in the Twentieth Century America.Modern dance in twentieth Century emphasized the action itself, and modern painting is that to get together the material which is in our life by the mean of assembling and collage, protruding the sound(silent, noise, musical sound) itself is the modern music’s work. We will realize the concert purpose of their art form which attempting to break through the traditional cage, to illustrate art is art itself that shouldn’t add emotion comes from human’s mind. Then measures of creating avoid subjective, approach random, or closer to nature. This is a pure “art” that shouldn’t be influence the outside world through the process of creation and show. The author will analyze the rationale of its interoperability passing of the artist who has influence in Cage’s creations, as well as the relevant Eastern thought theories.This paper aims at expounding how the Eastern thoughts and Cage’s creations to permeate and develop each other. Studying in "Book of Changes", Cage has confidence in his non-determinacy creations. He applies the number which comes out from the "Money Divination" in all aspects of creation to be a part of the material. Subsequently, he uses "dynamic and static" this has non-opposition concept of Zen, to determine the dynamic of diagram followed the divination until complete the creation.All of above, what the author told about researching Cage’s works that were influenced in the theory of Oriental thought intends to rethink the existence value of music and the intrinsic relationship between music and life.
