On The Writing Of Suffering In Gao Xiao - Sheng 's Novels

Gao Xiaosheng is a famous contemporary writer, who began to engage in the novel creation since 1951.He still insisted on writing until old age. His novels have been widely welcomed.Gao Xiaosheng’s novel with steady and painstaking description, humorous and deep language shows us the different types of suffering which contains the sufferings of the farmers and the sufferings of the intellectuals and occursin different social period after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. These sufferings are caused byexternal left-leaning errors and internal stubborn national character. The suffering writing not only provides us with a kind of life and psychological suffering, but also shows us the situation that human being encountered and the natural living state in the survival of the individual. In such suffering writing, we can see a warm and critical writing psychology, an identity of creation including self-experiencer and bystander,an enthusiastic and calm attitude of creation. In a word, Gao Xiaosheng’s works can be interpreted from many angles because of his suffering experience and his intellectual personality. At the same time, we expect to find out the unique significance of Gao Xiaosheng’s suffering writing in the history of literature,based on the research of his suffering writing in his fictions.This paper studied the Gao Xiaosheng’s creation of fiction from the perspective of the suffering, also did some reaserch on his suffering writing based on multiple perspectives. Firstly, this paper outlined and classified his suffering writing from the text, then divided the suffering writing into three theme paradigms. They are rural physical suffering, the suffering left over by the history and the sufferings of the intellectuals. Three themes covered his misery writing content in his fictions and pointed to the suffering motif from different angles. Secondly, this paper analyzed the narrative aesthetics of Gao’s suffering writing,then discovered the unique aesthetic style of his suffering writing. The unique aesthetic style includes the a tearful smile narrative connotation presented by the humorous technique, the soft narrative emotion implied by the skill of line drawing, the double chorus" narrative perspective brought by the double identities.。 Finally, the paper analysed the value of the suffering writing from the perspective of literary history. Gao’s suffering writing had an individualized elegant demeanour due to expressing the bottom consciousness merged into his own experiences, expressing the stern criticism originated from an anger intellectual,showing the emotion salvation containing the brilliance of humanity. But, there are some shortcomings in his suffering writing, such as addicting to expressing the bottom consciousness, lacking of the consciousness of surmounting misery.
