Jiping Zhao (August 1945~) is the famous composer in music field in China, and is hailed as Williams of China., who is a representative contemporary possesses Chinese style, national marking and national culture spirit, the milestone personality in the Chinese music history. This article analyzed music ontology of the Qiao’s Grand Courtyard symphony suite and the first Symphony from the perspective of harmony, then combing with two works of different periods respectively, afterwards carry out the comparative analysis, explore Mr Jiping Zhao’s symphony music works and the technique and characteristics of his works.This thesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, the second chapter is Jiping Zhao’s profile and the overview of the Qiao’s Grand Courtyard symphony suite and the first Symphony, the third chapter illustrates the harmonic analysis of Qiao’s Grand Courtyard symphony suite, the fourth part elaborates the first symphony’s harmonic analysis, the fifth chapter shows the embodiment of harmony in two works, the sixth chapter is the specific comparison of the Qiao’s Grand Courtyard symphony suite and the first Symphony.Specifically, the first chapter mainly discusses the topic selection basis, the research status at home and abroad, research approach, research innovation and characteristic.The second chapter includes four sections, which are the introduction of Jiping Zhao, the creation background of the first movement of Symphony, the creation background of Qiao’s Grand Courtyard symphony suite, and the chapter summary. As well as the comb of the music genre is added in the background of the two works. Then through a brief introduction to Mr Jiping Zhao and the summary of work creation background and theme, which is helpful to better realize the works from the overall-and macro angle.The third chapter is divided into six parts, which analyzes the six movements of Qiao’s Grand Courtyard symphony suite from the composition of music’s chord, harmony, mode and tonality respectively, and give the summary of each movement.The fourth chapter consists of three parts. The three movements of "the first symphony" are analyzed separately from the composing of the chord, mode and tonality; lastly it will summarize the key points of each movement.The fifth chapter includes four parts, which mainly describes the introduction of harmony, five mode harmonies, the function of harmony, and the expression of harmony in the work. Discusses the function and performance of harmony from the respective of the relationship of voice parts and the structure of pitch, the classification and establishment of music structure, the development and performance of music content, the establishment and fuzzy of the mode and tonality.The last chapter will compare the harmony of Qiao’s Grand Courtyard symphony suite and the first Symphony, which will end with a summary of harmony skills and characters in symphony music work of Jiping Zhao.
