China is the place endowed with the fine spirits of the universe, the images of mountains and water have become an indispensable components in Chinese paintings as well as the lifestyles of old China which is almost ubiquitous among paintings, murals and frescos. As an important topic in Chinese paintings, landscape painting evolves from "painting the mountains and water" to "landscape paintings". Starting from the analysis of Wuzhen landscape paintings, this thesis is concentrated on the interpretation of the spatial structure of mountains and water paintings. The spatial structure of landscape paintings means the way to build images in the paintings, instead of presenting a real 3 dimensional space; it creates an imagery space on the two dimensional surface. It is the vision being created. Starting from the analysis of the brushwork and image structure of Wuzhen landscape paintings, I will try to explore the macro and micro structures of mountains and water paintings.
