A Study On The Cultural Value Of Zhuosong Temple In Aba Prefecture

Zhuozang Temple is located on the Jixiang dam of A Xi Rong Town of Ruoergai County in the North A Ba District, which is in the Western part of Sichuan Province. It was established in 1700s and adherent to the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Zhuozang Temple was very prestigious in the history of An duo area, and is one of time-honored temples in Ruoergai Area. As an independent social entity, it is the product of Tibetan society and culture. Meanwhile, it is also the spiritual pillar of people from places like agricultural and pastoral areas of A Xi grassland and Die tribe of the Southern part of Gansu province, serves to those who believe in the religion. In the form of belief, Zhuozang Temple is reflected in all aspects of Ruoergai Tibetan people’s lives. Although the society is developing and advancing, the religious status of the Temple has not been changed. In contemporary society, the research on Zhuozang Temple’s establishment, development and the track of its heritage, will not only explore the efficiency of central government’s administrative polices and measures towards Tibetan areas, but also helpful in finding the reasons that stabilize the belief in an everchanging historical process of the society, which is significant in making scientific development polices for Tibetan areas.Base on Zhuozang Temple, this research will systematically explore the temple’s historical heritage and modern development, and sum up the development process of its various phases through literature searching, fieldwork on the spot and the interviews done with monks of the temple. With the history of Zhuozang temple as the main line, this research is going to discuss the important role that Zhuozang temple plays in the social and cultural heritage of Ruoergai area according to multi-angles such as its living Buddha systems, the temple’s administrative management organizations, its education system as well as the religious architecture and art. Using Zhuozang Temple as a sample case, the research will unveil the structure of Tibetan culture through the elements of spiritual culture such as religion, philosophy, moral value and aesthetic, thus discover the core of ethnical spirit, for instance, traditional values and ethnical psychological structure. What is more, Zhuozang Temple has established the caesaropapism system in accordance with its integrated management organization and social order, and this research will lead to a further discussion under this topic. Through discussing the function of Zhuozang Temple in inheriting the social culture in Ruoergai area as well as the development and transfer of traditional Tibetan values and political economy system in the modern society, this research provides a valuable sample in exploring the effective way of expanding ethnical culture and economy, which will ultimately contribute to the protection of ethnical solidarity and cohesiveness.
