Humor plays an important role in entertaining people, being a peculiar human communicative phenomenon. Meanwhile, the reason that comedy is attractive is due to its humor, especially the charm of verbal humor.The previous research only focus on explaining humor with semantics or pragmatics alone,ignoring the role of the human brain’s cognitive perspective, let alone exploring the meaningful construction or analyzing of the actual process of thinking. Whereas this paper is to study the phenomenon of humor from the perspective of cognitive linguistics, using one of the Frame-Shifting theory and Markedness Iconicity theories to analyze the verbal humor in comic film. This paper takes the film Lost in Thailand, which was released at the end of 2012 and being the champion at the box office in Chinese film history.The film has been hailed as an unprecedented success, and mostly contributes to its verbal humor. Taking the film’s humorous dialogues, analyzing the verbal humor with the two above-mentioned theories, this paper discusses the principles in understanding verbal humor.
