An Analysis Of Romantic Features And Techniques In Schumann 's Fantasy Of C Major

Robot Schumann is famously known as an eminent German composer and music critic in 19 th century during the romantic period. As a pioneer and innovator in musical field, Schumann has made significant contribution to the development of romantic music by his outstanding talent in music and innovative idea about romanticism. He has composed a variety of music works in his life, among which piano works occupy the most significant place. It reflects his breakthrough and innovation towards traditional ways of creation, by combining new methods and expressing sentimental feelings in the process of composing. This paper makes analyze of Schumann’s Fantasy in C Major Op.17 in detail, in order to show the various perspective and special creation method of the composer, as well as provides instructions for performance.There are three chapters in the paper. The first chapter briefly introduces the whole life of Robot Schumann and the age background. The second chapter gives the composing characteristics of Fantasy in C Major Op.17, in terms of melody, rhythm, piano texture form and structure. The final chapter analyzes the complicated points of performance.
