George Gershwin(1898- 1937) is one of the most representative American composers in the 20 th century, his works use much American folk music—elements of Jazz, so they are very popular among the public. His works not only contain popular songs in Broadway, but also large symphony music and opera performed and sung in music halls, he has been deeply marked in the history as the composer successfully integrating popular music elements into heavy music.Cuban Overture For Orchestra is Gershwin’s works created after he spent holiday with friends in Cuba and contacted with Cuban folk music with great enlightenment in February 1932, the works adopts compilation of orchestra and integrates with many Cuban folk music elements, which not only has the structure of traditional symphony,but also is full of exotic amorous feelings.The paper researches creation technique of Cuban Overture For Orchestra, starts from the music to analyze its application of Jazz elements in scales, harmony, rhythm and instruments. It summarizes Gershwin’s creation characteristics and historic meaning of the works, analyzes reasons from growth experience, social environment and age opportunity, puts forward author’s introspection of music.
