On The Image Of "Our Lady" In Chinese Literature In The 20th Century

The paper centers on the image of Saint Mary in the 20 th century Chinese literature. It selects five texts from the Christian writer and non-christians writer, standing on the two different points of view. It systematically examines the image of Saint Mary and some knowledge and attitudes of Saint Mary and understandings and expressions of the spirit of Saint Mary in the 20 th century Chinese literature. At the same time, it makes a comparative study with the image of Saint Mary in the western religious culture as well as the image of Saint Mary written in the missionary Chinese biographies in the Ming and Qing dynasty. And it summarizes three characteristics on the nativization and literalization of the image of Saint Mary in the 20 th century Chinese literature—the adjustment from the virgin to the mother’s role; the changing consciousness of family and social; the awakening of consciousness from deity to human. The first data collections and checks on the image of Saint Mary in the 20 th century Chinese literature is a basis supplementary work for the researches on the relationship between the 20 th century Chinese literature and Christian character themes. Then the paper has a system carding and research for the image of Saint Mary in the 20 th century Chinese literature. Finally, it analyses the specific characteristics and the historical development route of the image of Saint Mary in the five texts, which has a significance value for the theme studies of the 20 th century Chinese literature.Studies on the relationship between the 20 th century Chinese literature and Christian culture is a hot academic research on current comparative literature. The theme and purpose of this paper is hope to as a basic supplement for these researches. In addition, the study of the image of Saint Mary in the 20 th century Chinese literature also has certain reference values for other subjects, such as: art, religion, history and other disciplines, and will provide a new view for other related theme researches in the 20 th century Chinese literature. And it also has certain values and significances for the study of cultural communications between China and Europe.
