This is a report on the Chinese-English translation of the book The Cultural Creativity of the Chinese Literature in the 20th Century by Li Jikai,a professor of Shaanxi Normal University.This book,published on December,2009,gives a profound analysis of the Chinese literature in the 20th century from the perspectives of style,form and characteristics of its cultural creativity.And professor Li believes that Chinese culture of the 20th century generally has new creativity and such cultural construction will go on in the new century.Based on the first two sections of the sixth chapter of the book The Cultural Creativity of the Chinese Literature in the 20th Century as well as the translation theorist Eugene Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory,this report gives a specific introduction to this translation practice and describes the problems on the lexical and syntactical level as well as its solutions.During this translation practice,the translator has come to see more clearly the importance of the analysis of the source texts,and has improved the ability of combining the translation theories with translation practices.This report consists of five parts:project introduction,translation process description,introduction to the translation theory used in the project,case study and project summary.The first part introduces the source,objectives and requirements of the translation project.The second part describes the whole translation process,including the preparations before translation,translation difficulties and the post-translation work,The third part introduces the functional equivalence theory and its guidance for this project.The forth part is the main part of the report,which analyzes and concludes the different problems in terms,sentences and chapters,and explores its translation strategies and skills.And the last part focus on the conclusion of the whole translation project.
