Fryderyk Chopin is a famous Polish pianist and composer and is one of the world’s most renowned musicians as one of Europe’s romantic music representatives in the 19 th century. Chopin’s piano music creation brings the individually played piano instrument richer and more changed musical expression, because his created piano music has beautiful melody with a characteristic style of singing and lyricism,he is also known as "poet of the piano". Chopin created a lot of piano works with different styles, but variation is a genre less used. Through review of the current literature and information, the author finds that research on Chopin’s variations is less.In1833, Chopin created Variations Brillantes in B Flat Major(OP.12) according to“Le Devic” written by Ailloer and it is frequently played by students majored in piano due to its interesting music and moving melody.The author makes careful study and analysis on the music works based on the creation background and Chopin’s common creative approach. Besides, as the works is the music played by the author on the graduation concert, during learning and playing the music, the author also explores and sums up some playing experience.Variation is usually a genre used by the composers to show their creative skills in music, because it contains a rich variety of variation techniques and various virtuoso compositional techniques. Through literature research, comparative analysis,experience summary and other methods, the author conducts study on this works. The paper is divided into four chapters. The first chapter introduces the music creation of Chopin and its style characteristics. The second chapter sorts out the development context and technique categories of variations. The third chapter analyzes the musical works in many ways. In the fourth chapter, with the author’s own performance and a detailed description of music, the author illustrates some of the technical difficulties in performance of the variation. The author hopes to make players better understand and master music features and performance points of the variation by these studies.
