ShiMing, a exegetical monographs, deriving the origin of things’ name by sound gloss methods,which plays an important role in Chinese history of linguistics, is the first book in Chinese etymology. The book ShiMing, came out in the late of East-Han Dynasty, was written by LiuXi. The book was arranged as 8 volumes, 27 parts. ShiMing explaining words with sound gloss methods, not only indicates the meaning of the word, but more focuses on exploring the connection between the phonetic and semantic. The method for the study of the Han Dynasty meibutsu providing reference significance, has a high academic value. As it is, there are few books researching its a language phenomenon systematically. It seems that describing relatives appellation words in the book has a certain significance to understanding the full view of relatives appellation in the period of the book.By classifying the relatives appellation words in the book, we discuss its structure mode, excavate the historical and cultural connotation. The formation of relatives appellation terms in ShiMing presents the following characteristics. Firstly, the relatives appellation terms in ShiMing is given priority to with monosyllable, and disyllable has the very big development, having the obvious trend of double syllable. There are 54 monosyllables, accounting for 59.3% of the total number; however, the number of disyllable also have certain development, reaching 37, 40.7% of the total, taking up two fifths. Secondly, the disyllables in ShiMing is given priority to linked and partial form, of which, the later is its main forms. There are 6 linked form among the 37 disyllables, accounting for 16.2%. Meanwhile, there are 31 partial form, accounting for 83.8%.The relatives appellation terms in ShiMing, as a important way of carrying culture, reflects the historical and cultural connotation of the ShiMing period: Firstly, it embodys a strict patriarchal system and ancestor worship of family concept in Han Dynasty, which specificly embodys the center in patrilineal in the family, for example: a clear line of thought, a respect for seniority, in-groups vs out-groups, the ancestor worship and maintaining focus on the family ties. This family concept of family has played a certain positive role on famliy harmony, and social stability, of which the existence has its reasonable composition. Secondly, it embodies complicated marriage custom and unique marriage system of the Han Dynasty. In Han Dynasty, arranged marriage, between men and women, must be up to Six Manners and have a formal ceremony. There sxisted the phenomenon of marriage that sisters with the same marriage and marriage send cross-cousin marriage. Thirdly, it embodies women’s role will change with the change of their family status in Han Dynasty, which presents the duality and imbalance, both authority respected and inequality.
