EEG devices could display the brain activities of human objectively. It is a valuable research for creating music via BCI devices. The traditional hardware for brainwave pick up is huge and expensive. It always has a long time preparation before the collection. Only recently, however, has the technology expanded into the prosumer realm. This greatly reduced the cost of brain-music researches.The work we proposed is an indeterminacy work of new media art, which employed commercial brain–computer interfaces and appliance computers as the media of creation. The neurofeedback technology has been adopted as the way to achieve interactions between music and performers. We translate the EEG signal representing the performer’s thinking status as the parameters for each procedure of music creation, such as composition, note playing and effects application. The final piece will be with a style characterized by new age or ambient music. Not only the audience could hear the brainwave music but also the performer his/herself. Therefore, we could get a beneficial cycle of “thinking-listening-thinking”. Most people would have a relief experience during their brainwave music creation process.This is a new experimental example in interactive music arts realm. The beautiful sound is a most appreciated value since we applied several music theories on the system such as Chinese traditional pentatonic scale and just intonation. Meanwhile, it revealed to us some potential value, which may be used on some other realm such as pressure alleviation, entertainments and so on.
