Western music formed the traditional musical syntax by the accumulation of compositional practice and theory based on musical parameters like tonality, melody, harmony, rhythm etc. But for electroacoustic music, which is a new music type emerged in 20th century, traditional musical syntax has much difficulty in adapting to the new practice of this kind of music. This situation is partly due to the distinct differences in technical and conceptual aspects of traditional and electronic music. Firstly, this thesis summarized the formation of phrase and punctuation, relation of different phrases in the music composition from the perspective of relationship & difference in musical syntax of traditional and electronic music. Then, studied the musical syntax in electronic composition by looking into two electronic master pieces composed in different periods from the splendid French composer and theoretician Michel Chion. The author tried to summarize three main characteristics in the musical syntax from Michel Chion pieces, which are concealment, diversity and the combination of linearity & non-linearity. |
