| When Wang Shizhen stayed in Yangzhou, he experienced a crucial period of his literary career. Under the subtle influence of the natural and cultural environment of Yangzhou and his personal talentand efforts, Wang Shizhen realized his ambition in the field of literature and carried various literary activities during his official career in Yangzhou. These literary activities were mainly in the form of travel intoning, present-response poems and assembly antiphonies; they facilitated Wang Shizhen to develop his poetry creation and theories, improved his literary achievement and literary reputation. In addition, these activities also laid the basis for Wang Shizhen to become the leader of the literary realm. What was more critical was that Wang Shizhen restated, emphasized and raised the status of Yangzhou as a noted historic and cultural city. To a certain degree, it contributed to the artisticdevelopment of Yangzhou. This article is made up of four chapters and will do full-scale research about Wang Shishen’s literary activities in Yangzhou.The first chapter is mainly about the background of his literary activities in Yangzhou. In the first section, the glorious history, superior location and profound cultural skeleton of Yangzhou before Qing dynasty will be introduced. Then it describes a ruined Yangzhou in early Qing dynasty so as to point out that someone who has literary talents was needed in that time and meanwhile, the status that Yangzhou still maintained as a gathering place for literati was also beneficial to the growth of those poets. The third section introduces Wang Shizhen’s literary talent and reputation, prominent leadership and affinity before he came to Yangzhou to highlight that the union of a historic city to be built urgently and a young talent is worthwhile to be expected.The second chapter gives an overall introduction to his sight-seeing in Yangzhou and analyzes its meaning. As for the first section, it is mainly about the scenic spots and historic sites of Yangzhou and its subordinates like Yizheng and Gaoyou, which Wang Shizhen has visited and rebuilt and sequently the poems he has created. The next part states his travel experiences in some neighboring cities such as Nanjing and Suzhou. The third part studies the interaction between Wang Shizhen and some different poets and the impact it has made on his scholarly creation, reputation, other poets and even the whole literary circle in the south of the Yangtze River.The third chapter explores the literary activities that Wang Shizhen has participated or organized in Yangzhou and the meaning behind those activities which benefit the culture construction of Yangzhou. In the first section, his literary cooperation with other poets will be introduced. Next, it mainly discusses the significance of some activities such as the restoration of Hong Bridge and its inheritance, and the formation of the city card of Yangzhou. In addition, it makes an analysis on whether those literary activities will influence Wang Shizhen, other poets, literary realm of Yangzhou in the early Qing dynasty, and even the whole realm of the country.The last chapter does a survey on his overall literary accomplishment in Yangzhou and finds some relations between those accomplishments and the unique humanity and nature. The first section summarizes his literary success in Yangzhou and how these success is nourished by the local environment. The second section analyzes his literary creation, literary style and some of his works such as Shenyunji, Erjiashixuan, Lunshijueju in order to show his thought. Then it discusses his scholarly life and the development of the idea of Shenyunshuo based on his theory. The secondsection adraws a conclusion on his verse writing in Yangzhou according to some of his works likeYangboci,. Besides, it analyzes the development of his idea in verse based on huacaomengshi and yishengchujiand the effects of his idea of some poets like Chen Weisong, some schools of verse like Yangxian, and even the Qingci on the whole. |
