Jean Sibelius, who was in late romanticism between the late nineteenth century and the early twentieth century, spared no effort to explore a new kind of expression in music languages. Meanwhile, he respected the principle of traditional creation. His works, which are performed frequently by many orchestras, are always understood with streamline material and clear structure and logic, and are memorable with their unique glamour of his inner music. In the dissertation, by using three symphonies NO.5(Op.82), NO.6(Op.104), and NO.7(Op.105)and his symphonic peom Tapiola Op.112 as the object of study, we mainly focus on fundamental features of their theme developments and structure logic. The thesis is divided into three parts-- the exordium, main body, and conclusion. In the exordium, domestic and overseas researches are summarized, and the basis of topic’s selection and the significance of this research is explained. Moreover, the lifetime and works of Sibelius are briefly introduced. The main body is consisted of three chapters. In Chapter One, by using derivative skills of theme to develop, the relevance of logical structure, which appears in the object of study between thematic materials, is illustrated from aspects of different themes and the derivation from thematic material in section 1.Section2 is about the derivations in the eatirely thematic material to research its methods of derivations and its logic. In chapter two,the structure of rotation and its classification is discussed in two sections. In section one,the rotation, whose types of progressive and substituing in a theme,is elaborated;section two is about the rotation of division and expansion, division and reducing in multiple subjects.Chapter three aims at analysing the hybird form, dividing into three section. In section, the hybrid of genres thought is discussed. Section two mainly discusses the hybrid of different structure-the hybrid of rotation and forms.Scetion three is about the hybrid of traditional form principles. In the last part-- conclusion, every argumentation above is concluded, and the research of symphonies’ themes and structures in Sibelius’ s late period is generalized.
