Study On Structure Of Jean Sibelius' Lemminkainen Suite

Sibelius is the very famous composer in Finland,and he wrote a lot of works which involved a variety of genres in his life.The Lemminkainen Suite is Sibelius' only symphonic poem suite.The Lemminkainen Suite is based on the Finland national epic poem—Kalevala,which belongs to Sibelius' early works,and it is extremely rich from genre,theme,melody,harmony,texture,and so on.The four movements of the Lemminkainen Suite were created at different times that described different stories and depicting different scenes.These four movements,which seem to be independent,are closely related,and they influence the structure of the music from the content of the story,the pitch material,the fabric,and so on.Structure is a very broad word,and it's different structures that includes pitch structure,harmony structure,texture structure,musical form structure,and so on,and the relationship between that different structures.In this paper,we only select the most prominent structural characteristics of Lemminkainen Suite to analyze and discuss.This article is divided into six parts.The introduction summarizes the research status of Sibelius and Lemminkainen Suite,and introduces the research train of thought,methods and framework.The first chapter is an overview of the Lemminkainen Suite that summarizes the background,genre and the source of the subject.The second chapter,from the perspective of the melody line,summarizes the structure of the lateral pitch material.The third chapter analyzes the characteristics of texture structure with continuous sound according to the texture categorizes.The fourth chapter summarizes the characteristics of every movement's generative process.The conclusion summarizes this paper.The article,which is based on the study of Lemminkainen Suite structure as the starting point,tries to dig Sibelius' s early creation characteristics and summarize the works of symphonic poem creation,for the purpose of studying Sibelius' s Symphonic Poem supplement and being helpful for future research.
