“A Luan story ”is the oral literature which was created collectively by Dai people. After a long time, these stories have almost been spread in every family of Dai people and loved deeply by them.“A Luan story”is the essence of Dai people’s folklore, and is also a precious spiritual wealth of Dai people, which contains their wisdom、ethics and world view, and so on. Researching on“A Luan story”makes us understand the culture and national psychology of Dai people more deeply and comprehensively.“A Luan”is the symbol and incarnation of excellent men of Dai people, so studying on“A Luan story”is conductive to explain further A Luan’s cultural characteristics and cultural functions. On the basis of the combination of story text and the materials of field investigation, this paper pays attention to the importance between the story and Dai people and ethnic identity, regarding its current spreading situation and existing problems, calling for Dai people to self-inherit sustainably this story as the holders of Dai culture. This paper is divided into five chapters, the main content is as follows:In the first chapter, the author defined the image of " A Luan" according to the content of “A Luan Story”. Then the author classified further the story group of “A Luan”, inducing the story type of Buddha Jataka、the story type of strange son、the story type of justice hero、the story type of White Wave, and so on. From different types of story, the author discussed the culture symbol of “A Luan”.In the second chapter, the author discussed the theme of metamorphosis. Mainly Starting with the way of deformation, a series of changes in the story reflect the beliefs to the another world and animism of Dai people, for example, objects beautified as men、men beautified as objects,and so on. Dai people think all living things as one; infiltrating between people and things with each other; transformation between man and nature with each other. From the view of the circular time of Buddhism, it is thought there is a reincarnation between the people and things.Deformation is the continuation of life, and the "renewable" rebirth of life. At thesame time, the deformation technique in the story has influenced certainly on Dai writer’s creation.In the third chapter, the author focused on the theme of treasure. The author analyzed the types of the treasures 、 rich cultural connotations and Dai people’s collective unconscious contained in the treasure stories; analyzed A Luan’s the complex of patricide and the psychological tendency of relying on Father God from the relationship between the donor and the awarded people; at the same time revealed“A Luan” has a desire of being a king. Treasures are moral declaration of Dai people, so it is valuable to research deeply the concept of cause and effect contained "A Luan Story" 、the function of education and influence to Dai people and advocate them to do good.In the fourth chapter, the author discussed the theme of difficult problem. She focused on the intention of arrangement and the diversity of methods. " Difficult problem" is the essential link of man’s bar mitzvah and Buddhism practice in ancient Dai society and also a good social opportunity for Dai people to change their fate. It is meaningful to pay close attention to cultural phenomena and cultural functions left in real life of Dai people at present.In the fifth chapter, the author focused on current spreading situation of “A Luan Story”. Entering into the Dai people’s life and their villages, the author has collected current spreading materials and understood social functions and ethnic identity to local Dai people, and she pays more attention to their heritage in local society; calls for Dai people to protect “A Luan Story” seriously and continue to inherit the oral culture continuously.
