With the development of China, more and more countries want to learn Chinese. To know about Chinese culture, and even to make a good relationship with China. As we all know, in order to learn Chinese well, many countries have already set up Confucius Institutes, and Chinese proficiency test(HSK) in China also gradually become a very hot level exam in the world. However, teaching quality has become a key problem of the development of international Chinese education. In order to improve the teaching quality, we need to study not only the teachers’ teaching from the aspects of teaching methods, but also the aspects of student’s learning effect, especially the problems those appears in cross-cultural communication. To develop the students’ ability of intercultural communication is the main goal of the second language teaching, however, it is difficult to achieve this goal because of the differences of the learners’ cultural background, social habits and habits of thinking mode. But it also made us realize that if we want to eliminate cultural conflicts and misunderstandings and finally achieve the purpose of communication just by the way that to master these languages items, such as phonetics, grammar, vocabulary, ontology knowledge is not enough, we also need to grasp some right pragmatic knowledge. At present, the perspective of adaptation theory which applied in the study of cross-cultural pragmatic failure is more applied in English teaching, This researcher chooses the adaptation theory as the theoretical basis, the concept of cross-cultural pragmatic failure as the center, the Chinese pragmatic norms as standard and questionnaire survey and interviews as data collection methods to analysis those pragmatic failures that appear in the communication which speakers from different cultural backgrounds(mainly Southeast Asian students) communicate in Chinese. Analyzing from multiple perspectives and putting forward methods to avoid or reduce cross-cultural pragmatic failure. This paper is divided into the following five parts: the first chapter is the introduction mainly about the importance of this theme and the research achievements of predecessors.
