This article begins with the reasons of the nine-dash line dispute, which are the specialgeographical position, strategic position and rich natural resources. Secondly, it reviewed thehistory of exercising sovereignty and jurisdiction in nine-dash line by the Chinese mainlandand Taiwan. The focus of this article mainly lies in the discussion of the connotation of thenine-dash line, including the maritime boundary line theory, the island line theory, the historicwaters theory and the historic rights line theory. Among them, the island line theory and thehistoric rights line theory are the main connotations. Then, it analyzes the current arbitrationapplied by the Philippines, which mainly lies in the discussion of the connotation of thenine-dash line, including the jurisdiction and other issues. Based on this,the author try to findout the resolving methods of nine-dash line dispute of the South China Sea.
