| China is currently in the critical period of economic development as well as in theprominent period of social contradictions. Breaking out since2008, the number of group eventshas reached more than one hundred thousand cases in2012, disrupting the economic and socialorder seriously while affecting social stability. There are three levels of group events: rightsafeguarding, anger venting and riots, which include rallies, marches, demonstrations, strikes,students’ strikes, petitions, occupying traffic routes or public places, etc. They can be rightlyinterpreted into the escalation of social conflicts, the pluralism of interest groups and theirrequests, and the complexity and difficulty of dealing with conflicts. There are also a variety ofspecific conflicts, naming the wealth gap, corruption, pollution, rising house prices, limitededucation resources and high medical service cost, testing the wisdom of the party and thegovernment all along. General Secretary Xi Jinping mentioned many times that leading cadresshould learn more about history. Is it possible to find a way to follow in the history of the Partyregarding fixing current social conflicts? The answer is positive. Mao Zedong had put forward asolution to internal contradictions among the people back in the early fifties of last century.Through dusting off Mao’s masterpiece of "On the Correct Handling of Contradictions Amongthe People", the author worships the brilliant ideas and was provided the inspirations with regardto building a harmonious socialism society. The dissertation came therefore into being.Based on studying "On the Correct Handling of Contradictions Among the People" andmastering the fundamental principles of building a harmonious socialism society, the authorexplores how the Contradictions among the People theory will shed light on building aharmonious society. The dissertation consists of three chapters, the first two focusing ontheoretical analysis while the third on how the theory conforms to practice, therefore to generateinsights. Chapter One elaborates Mao Zedong’s theory on Contradictions among the People andits historical limitations. It argues that fundamentals of the contradictions among the peopleprovide basis for building social harmony, and its historical limitations for lessons. In all,Chapter One is to provide a theoretical analysis tool with methodological significance. ChapterTwo dwells on the contradictions among the people to solve in the construction of a harmonioussocialism society. This chapter analyzes the forms, features and roots of social contradictions atpresent. If the first chapter serves as the theoretical basis, this chapter the reality. The last chapteris on building up a harmonious socialism society under the guidance of Mao Zedong’s theory. Itdiscusses first how Mao’s theory conforms to the practice justifying to learn from it. Then theauthor elaborates the insights drawn from it upon building a harmonious socialism society.Enhancing the welfare of the people consistently provides the foothold for handling properly the contradictions among the people and building up a harmonious socialism society.The Communist Party of China is currently carrying out educational practice under the theme ofthe mass line, focusing on improving conduct and strengthening the close relations between itselfand the people. This identifies with the goals of building a harmonious society and shouldprogress in a collaborative and parallel fashion. Both promoting social harmony and carrying outwithin the Party educational practice under the theme of the mass line in the process to resolvecontradictions among the people serve the purpose of the Chinese Dream, which is to build awell-off society in an all-round way and to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.Therefore, to build a harmonious socialism society under the guidance of the theory ofContradictions among the People should be examined in the context of building a well-offsociety in an all-round way and realizing the Chinese Dream. |
