Satellite communication is an important component of wireless communication, and satellite communication network plays a more and more important role in today's global communications market. Compared with other communication networks, satellite communication network has a number of incomparable superiority, but the features of high cost and limited network resources, especially limited bandwidth have become a bottleneck problem for its development. How to have an optimal allocation for different users so as to use the limited bandwidth is the core of the bandwidth management. It is need to manage bandwidth resources because of the characteristic of limited bandwidth and dynamic network topology. A bandwidth management model is established based on the network management architecture, which includes three main functions. MIB of the SNMP is extended in order to describe the bandwidth to an object which can be identified by the network management system. A dynamic resource registration process is designed aiming at the characteristics of satellite nodes. Bandwidth allocation is the core content of bandwidth management. Compared with the current major resource allocation model the economic model is selected. According to the large transmission delay, a dynamic pricing mechanism is designed; which also takes into account the relationship between supply and demand on prices, and based on which an allocation model is established. Management station calculates the maximum benefit based on users'applications and the bandwidth price. A price vector used for changing applications is feed backed to the users. A fairness index is defined. The optimal allocation under the constraints of bandwidth capacity and fairness index not only takes into account user needs but also ensures the relative fairness between users.A bandwidth management simulation system is designed in order to validate the allocation model, and the shortcomings of which are described. The future research direction is pointed out at last.
