Meteor Burst Communication (MBC) is a kind of burst communications, which relies on the ionization trails of meteors to reflect radio waves from transmitter to a receiver. MBC attracts extensive attention in the field of communications, with its advantages of large span communication distance, low probability of intercept, anti-jamming and anti-destroying ability. However, because of the burst and time-varying characteristics, Meteor Burst Communication has a low channel utilization and poor data throughput.Based on the analyzing of meteor burst channel's characteristics, in this thesis,a transfer protocol based on variable rate and bitmap feedback is researched to improve the data throughput. By using a parallel polling structure in the protocol, the information transmission rate in the transmit buffer is dynamic adjustment according to the real-time channel states while making full use of channel capacity. Meanwhile, the response information is transmitted to the transmitter in the form of bitmap feedback, which can improve the feekback efficiency. The performance of the protocol is simulated and analyzed at last. The simulation results show that with the same channel condition, comparing to the traditional fixed rate ARQ protocol ,the new protocol can effectively improve the system data throughput while improving the performance of the system.
