| As an important category of news reports,criminal news reports become the focus of media attention because of the regular appearance.The positive influence of criminal news is evident,while the performance of media is criticized during the reporting.The academic circle actively launched discussions about how standardized the criminal reports.The present studies usually pay attention to some certain report with the quantitative method.This paper takes Beijing Evening News as the research object,employing the Framing Analysis,summarizes the variation characteristics and existing problems of the criminal news reporting since the reform and opening up,giving suggestions to improve the qualities from the professionalismperspective.This paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is an introduction.In this part,we define the concept of criminal news and review the literature.On this basis,we explicit the research question,that is taking Beijing Evening News as the research object and explaining the variation characteristics of criminal news reporting since the reform and opening up.The second chapter is the research method.At the beginning,we give a brief introduction of the Frame Theory and the Framing Analysis.The time scale of this paper is from January 1,1981 to December 31,2010.We employ the Constructed week or composite week sample and selected 499 reports as the sample.Then we construct the categories of framing analysis.We construct the reporting number frame,the reporting styles frame and the reporting subjects frame on macro-level,the social class frame of the criminal(or the suspect) and the case stage frame of the media reporting the news on the mesosphere,the key words of the titles and the words or sentences using on the micro-level.The third chapter is research findings.From the quantitative analysis of the sample,we draw the following conclusions:the number of criminal news reports is increasing but the process complex;the reporting styles are more diversified and the news holding NO.1;The reporting subjects are more about the case against the legitimate interests of the individual,then the public interests and crimes by taking advantage of duty; the social class of the criminal(or the suspect) is more underclass;the case is more in the investigation stage.By the content analysis of the concrete text,we find the key words in the criminal news reports are inclined to highlight harsh punishment,criminal facts and Judicial image.The using of words and sentences is more in line with the requests of Journalistic Professionalism.The fourth chapter is conclusions and suggestions.Since the reform and opening up,the criminal news has been improving,while the problem of imbalance still existing. we think the contradictions of press freedom and social control,press profit-driven and public interests,report timeliness and case processes restrict the implementation of the professionalism.It is suggested that society should strengthen the professionalism education and create health media environment. |
