As a promising candidate technique to mitigate inter-cell interference (ICI) effectively in LTE-Advanced(LTE-A) system, coordinated multi-point (CoMP) technology has potential benefit to improve the coverage of high data rates and to increase both the average cell throughput and cell edge user throughput. With the knowledge of coordinated cells channel state information (CSI) at eNodeB (eNB), the transmitter can use joint processing methods such as block diagonalization (BD) and multi-user eigenmode transmission (MET) to cancel ICI completely.In this paper, the research background of LTE-A system and CoMP technology is presented firstly. Then the system model and scheme design of LTE-A system are introduced, including system level model, link level mapping model, channel model, multi antenna model, scheduling model etc. The proposed scheme of CoMP in TDD and FDD mode are introduced in the following two chapters, such as system model, transmitter joint pre-processing algorithm, receiver joint detection algorithm, joint scheduling algorithm etc. Also some novelty and innovation schemes are presented in this part, including static three-sector coordinated solution, the channel quality indicator (CQI) measurement scheme for CoMP, the redefinition of modulation and coding scheme (MCS) solution at eNB etc. In chapter V the channel estimation error of sounding reference signal (SRS) in TDD mode and channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) in FDD mode are modeled respectively. And the performances of CoMP under non-ideal channel estimation condition are shown in this part. Finally the system level simulation results demonstrate that CoMP can bring significant gain to both the average cell and cell edge user spectrum efficiency in LTE-A system. They verify that CoMP is an effective technology to further enhance the advantage of TDD. Also the future challenges and prospect of CoMP are given.
