The process of information technology is accelerated by the rapid development of the internet in modern society. Nowadays, the Internet has become an integral part of our life. The high efficient and stable routing protocols, considered as an important factor in network performance protection, are highly valued by the people. Protocol test is an important method to guarantee the protocol implementation running correctly in a real environment. However, conformance test alone is not enough and the research on interoperability test is required.IS-IS routing protocol is a mainstream interior gateway protocol. With its advantages such as a hierarchical network routing, scalability, fast convergence, good stability and small footprint, IS-IS routing protocol has been increasingly utilized in the large network. In the article, the first step is to study IS-IS protocol. FSM model of IS-IS protocol interoperability test was established according to the research of the relevant protocol specification. And then FSM model was converted to the CPN model with the idea of hierarchical and the MSC Message Sequence Chart. After the above actions, the CPN model of hierarchical IS-IS protocol interoperability testing is established.Secondly, the state space is generated automatically by using CPN Tools. Under the state space, the test sequence is generated according to the testing purpose. Followed the hand selection of necessary test cases as a supplement, the test case was then obtained. Finally, the test platform was built by using routing simulation software GNS 3 to simulate Cisco 7200 and Cisco 3640 under Windows XP, which were then tested with the obtained test case. The result was analyzed at last.
