P2P (Peer-to-Peer) technology is decentralization, scalability, robustness, load balancing, fault tolerance and good benefits, and gets a wide range of applications. As a typical P2P file-sharing application protocol, the eMule network has its quickly speed and efficiency. And more and more attention are paid and the protocol is being used widely. As the same time, the development of its has been limited because of some problems on the eMule protocol about unsafety and the poor performance of its design. In order to improve the protocol and strengthen the ability in the network, it is necessary to master the rule of eMule network by measurement. As eMule protocol's expansion, Kad network greatly did not only enhance the performance of eMule network, but also further increase the eMule network, difficult to control, making piracy, pornography and other criminal activities. All of them make the network more uncontrollable.Based on the aims of mastering the rules of the eMule network and developing the technology of P2P, this article takes a measurement on the eMule network. In order to measure better, the paper design and implement a combination of active and passive measurement system. An improved and aMule-based system has been designed to detect the network. And continuous improvement is required because of the more probe detection. With the system , eMule servers were found the distribution on the earth, the size and the types. The rules of the distribution of the eMule servers were mastered and the key factors that affect the eMule network were initially describing; the size of the real Ed2k network, download speed, network jitter measured, depicting file sharing system and the difference with the content sharing system, which shows the characteristics of file-sharing system. The article also measured on the Kad network. With the previous measurement, the article depicted Kad file sharing networks'advantages ,and detected the Kad network nodes, searched for the files'source's and found more advantages, in the end, described the Kad network jitter. The article used a simulator to simulate the network's events in the end.By the measurement, it was found that the system of eMule file-sharing network was better than the system used by BT content sharing mode. The mode made it advantage in the detection some rare files in the network. It was also found that the distribution of dissemination of a new file in the eMule network matched with the proposed negative exponential distribution, as similar to the Kad network node situation. In addition, through this paper, it proved that Kad protocol has unique advantages. At the same time, it also increased the difficulty of controlling the eMule network.
