| The internet which is based on IP protocol, will provide the largest amount of data transmission as it could. This kind of network could have more complicated client sides, while the network side will possess a much simpler structure. In this way, the network could be developed in a high speed. When more and more hosts are connected together, the demand for QoS will exceed the ability of the network, but the service can't be stopped which will result in the deterioration of the performance of the network, changes on the delay of the transmission, or even the lost of packet. These problems will be great troubles to some real-time applications (multimedia transmission) and bi-directional communication (IP Phone). To fulfill the demands of the service, we must make amends to regulation of the number and quality of the service. The regulation adds some protocols to the network to discriminate the real-time operations and the operations which don't care too much about the delay and lost of packet. That is the main function of QoS. The research work of the protocol of RSVP, which was made out by IETF in 1997 was introduced in this article. And the article also introduces the analysis of the working principle of this protocol and the implementation of the RSVP under linux, which will be meaningful to the operation of the RSVP. Except for the demands of QoS, we can't neglect another direction for the network development, that the network could conform different types of subnets and end systems. Under this circumstance, the problem of the heterogeneity of the network will be much more obvious. Thus the way to communicate effectively under this circumstance will be a great challenge to us. As we have previously discussed, we propose a theory, which use IP multicast to support the heterogeneity. Multiple receivers in the multicast address can obtain different image restore quality. The quality is correlated to the ability of receivers. This article put forward the mechanism of the QoS-Filter under the heterogeneous network, which, to meet the demands of the heterogeneous ends, can scale video stream to eliminate some information (such as color) which is useless to the end systems, by using the extended RSVP protocol as signaling. In this way, it can achieve the goal of economizing the resource effectively. To test the validity of the QoS-Filter, this article assembles the multicast systems under the Ethernet environment, and carries out a series of experiments in proper sequence. The results will provide credible evidence to the feasibility of the QoS-Filter. |
