Tension control is a wide used technology in the area of Spinning and Paper Making. It is closely related with the products' production efficiency and quality. Especially in the recent years, with the strict demand the customers have risen to the product, tension control catches more and more attention from electrical engineers.The majority of earlier period of tension control is based on the realization of analog components. Generally, it has low accuracy, bad stability, and not very good control result. The development of modern electric power electronics technique and the integration electronics technique, making original control logic replaced by simplified numeric circuit and micro control chips. It also takes the tension control's development into the orbit of multifunction, digital, and high accuracy.This article describes a multi-function tension control system based on MCS-51 single chip microcomputer and some related digital integrated circuits. Firstly, it introduces the whole system's basic principle, the way in which it carries out, the present development in and out of China, and also the necessity and significance of invent such an important tension control system. Secondly, the principle and electrical characteristic of magnetic particle clutch is discussed. Then, this article gives a vivid description of hardware and software anti-jamming, according to it's three different realization way: full auto mode, half auto mode, manual mode. Finally, it gives some research on digital PID control arithmetic, and modeling and simulating of whole system. According to the experiment result, the feasibility of this tension control system is testified.Compared with traditional tension controller, this system makes full digital improvement. It also uses PWM mode control method and high accuracy AD sample chip, making the high performance index of it's three control modes. It has much easier operation interface, higher price ratio, perfect capacity of anti-jamming, so it can accomplish rather better control result, satisfy the request of different customers.
