As a new booming and disputable TV program, TV talk show has been concerned by the academia and the journalistic circles. Though scholars have done much researching work in the fields of talk-show's grow-up reasons or the developing methods, these literatures are fragmentary. They need comprehensive survey and systemic consideration. On the basis that TV talk show is essentially a kind of narration, and its communicative features of sound and voice make non-linguistic signs play a major role in talk shows, we decide to adopt narratology and semiotics to deeply and comprehensively analyze the narration and non-linguistic signs in talk show programs. In the first chapter, the five basic forms of TV talk show were mainly mentioned from the aspect of academy. Besides, the development and the social-culture backgrounds of TV talk show were also discussed. In the following second chapter, narratology was adopted to study TV talk shows. Through textual analysis, we pointed out how the functions, settings and time of narration were shown on TV, as TV talk show is a kind of special and spatio-temporal narration. As a practical Methodology, narration and sign almost occurred at the same time. In the third chapter, we mainly make out the meanings of scenery, lights, music, and props. Further more, we found out how these signs become an aid for the information transmission during a conversation. Finally, we came to the conclusion that there were still many disadvantages in TV talk shows. We should not only make the topic more plot, but deepen the culture meanings of signs. We tried to combine narration with semiotics automatically. On one hand, we studied how to improve narration using non-linguistic signs;on the other hand, we discussed how to explain the signs' culture meanings by means of narration. As a result we hope to make theory research go back to the practice level.
