The wireless remote video monitor system makes use of the wireless communication network and Internet, and has no limit to the distance and space of object's monitor, especially to those moving or in the backland. With the development of application of GPRS/CDMA, it is very significant to research wireless remote image monitor. The wireless monitor system is composed of the monitor center and terminal. The paper includes the design and implement of terminal monitor software on the uClinux platform based on DSP. A stable and reliable image monitor system should deal with the stability, facility and the real-time of system softwareas well as the the problem of image encoding, transmission and remote device control etc. At the beginning, the paper introduces the overall structure of a terminal system, and analyses the implement of the system and compartmentalize the function modules.and then studys and implements each key module. JPEG encoding module is the key module of the system. its encoding efficience is of vital importance, so in this module, DSP assembler is adopted as well as optimizing .Network telecommunication module is responsible for the communication with the monitor centre, telecommunication protocols guarantee the correctness and reliability of the communication. The paper discusses in detail principles and contexts which the telecommunication protocols set down.and realizes the transmission of image data and control orders by making use of socket and multithreads in the uClinux platform through the use of multithreads, the terminal software is much more modulized, conveniently debugging with more system extensions. At last, the wireless image monitor is tested base on the CDMA communication network and Internet. The test shows that the terminal software's code size is about 150KB, consuming 3MB memory. The average encoding speed of CIF(352*288) image is about 18fps. In one sencond, five QCIF(176*144) images can be transmitted to the monitor center base on CDMA communication network. However, due to the bandwidth limitation of the wireless network, there has some lag between the remote video monitor system and the traditional video monitor system in performance. But the research on more efficient video image encoder and the 3G wireless communication network is the key of the wireless remote video monitor system.
