On Female Image In Newspaper Amusement News

A new trans-discipline research referred to as Women and Mass communication or Feminist Media Studies came into being with feminism permeating through all the social studies. In the light of feminism, this thesis is trying to wipe out sex discrimination under the veil of mass communication.This thesis, with feminist media studies as the theory foundation, seriously analyzed the female image in newspaper amusement news in a critical and experimental way in order to demonstrate whether the sex discrimination exists in the amusement news and even the mass media, the incorrect ideas showed and the approache to sex equality.This thesis consists of three chapters. Chapter One presents the history of feminist media studies, its research fields, theory foundation and status. Chapter Two begins with the comparison between the amusement news from Beijing Youth Daily, Xinmin Evening News, NanFan Daily,and XiaoXiang Morning Herald and the news from the main newspapers. With these data, diagrams and texts, the nature of sex discrimination and the various types are concluded. Chapter Three discusses the reasons for the discrimination before some suggestions of strategies to realize sex equality are put forward. This chapter ends with a blueprint for further research on this topic and also on feminist media studies.
