As comprehensive vehicle electronic technology advances, it is now possible to achieve integrated control of powertrain by utilizing data bus communication techniques. Meanwhile, the 1553B bus, by virtue of being more real-time and reliable in function performance than normally used vehicle bus such as CAN, is being widely adopted in various kinds of military vehicles. Therefore, an application research of 1553B bus for engine-transmission integrated control is carried out in this paper, based on an intensive study of the 1553B communication protocol.With the whole vehicle' s structure and functions taken into consideration, one type of bus topology demonstrating the overall integration of vehicle electronics is presented, after analysis of the powertrain integrated control principles and strategies. Likewise, the data transition model for the integrated powertrain control is established, as well as the data bus fulfilling scheme.According to that scheme, a special 1553B bus interface board is designed with the Intel 80C196KB be the system' s main controller and the BU61580 be the 1553B protocol management. Also, driver software and bottom-layer data transmission software are correspondingly developed so as to drive the interface board and make it be able to communicate with the destination 1553B module when running on a VXIbus-based test platform.Ultimately, the simulation software for integrated powertrain control is accomplished in LabWindows/CVI programming environment, with which to simulate the communication process between the engine and the transmission via 1553B bus. And the simulation test result shows that it is a feasible and preferable solution to integrated control of powertrain by using 1553B data bus.
