Modern personal communication requires providing high speed data services anywhere at anytime. Especially for those different kinds of multimedia services which are brought by 3G technology.As an extension of the existing wired networks, IEEE802.11 Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) is growing fast in wideband wireless access field due to its support for high speed data transmission such as video streams, which makes it a hot spot in multimedia services research.Plus the technical improvement of audio/video data compression and decompression .Multimedia Transmission over IEEE802.11b-based WLAN was born. It is a combination of multimedia services and WLAN, providing a solution of audio/video transmission on wireless network. It focuses on those tasks below:1. Firstly make a research about the background theory of WLAN. Be sure of its performance parameters.2. Analyze and choose several main technologies which are used as a standard, such as RTP/RTCP network transmission protocol, H.263 video compression technology, they are basic of development.3. Propose the software design principle: function realization, architecture, module partition, and so on.4. With the program development kits: Video for Windows (VFW) and Waveform Audio APIs, completed the main four modules: Audio/Video/Network Transmission/Synchronization. Plus interface and control mechanism. Meanwhile, each module has its own program language explanation in details.At last, some problems were put forward for resolve and suggestion are proposed for the future works.
