Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is one of the solutions for transportation which suffers increasingly excessive burden. ITS is a real time, accurate, highly efficient and synthetic system of transportation and management and can work in large scale and all the aspects, which integrates many advanced technologies, such as information technology, data traffic transportation technology, electronic sensor technology, electronic control technology and computer processing technology, and can be applied in the whole transportation management system. Traffic Dedicated Short-Range Communication (DSRC) is the key point.This thesis focuses on Medium Access Control (MAC) layer of DSRC's Data Link Layer (DLL). Some functions of DSRC's MAC layer is achieved by Verilog HDL language, and a method to realize the submodule of DSRC's MAC layer protocol is provided.Chapter 1 introduces the concepts of ITS and DSRC and the current research situation of our country. The frame of this thesis is provided at the end. Chapter 2 firstly analyzes and compares some popular short-range wireless communication technologies, such as Bluetooth, IEEE802.11 and HomeRF etc, then concludes that DSRC outperforms all other technologies. The DSRC's system framework and the protocol standard and flow of MAC layer is introduced at last. Chapter 3 discusses the basic principles and features of FPGA, and introduces the FPGA's development flow, then studies the Verilog HDL language used in this project. Chapter 4 focuses on the design of MAC layer. This chapter offers the idea to realize MAC layer according to protocol standard, and elaborates system framework, system configuration, partition of hardware and software, software design and interface standard etc. Chapter 5 introduces the realization of each MAC...
