PIFA (Planar Inverted F Antenna), which has low profile, small size, easy to design and manufacture and many other advantages, is widely used in mobile communication.MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) is a kind of system which is manufactured on a silicon substrate by IC production technology and fine structure production technology, such as micro-sensor, micro-performer, micro signal process and control circuit and so on. MEMS device has advantages as below: 1, low insertion loss, and high Q parameter; 2, low power consumption and high efficiency; 3, good linearity compared with semiconductor device and low signal distortion. Recent years, MEMS production technology has developed maturely and gives a fine solution for low-cost, small-sized and higher frequency application in wireless communication. In this thesis, first, the transmission character and radiated character of PIFA is analysed, then a equivalent model of PIFA is built by CAD software to analyse the effect of each dimension of the PIFA to the characteristic of the antenna. Then analyse the feature of MEMS switch and gives a equivalent model of cantilever MEMS switch to analyse its characteristics. At last, a MEMS multi-frequency reconfigurable PIFA is designed and simulated. It has two side patches, which operate at GSM900MHz. And it has a center patch with a slot, which has two MEMS switch on it, and can switch its operation band in GSM1800MHz, GSM1900MHz and WLAN2400MHz. The gain of the MEMS frequency reconfigurable PIFA reaches 1.5dB in all the operation band.Since the MEMS technology has not been used in antenna field widely, the MEMS frequency reconfigurable PIFA in this paper has considerable referenced value to the application of MEMS antenna.
