| With the rapid development of the Internet, using satellites to transfer IP traffic has become a new direction of satellite communication. And how to apply the core protocol of Internet - TCP/IP to space satellite channel efficiently has also become one of the most concerned issues for operators. Although there are many methods to realize satellite IP networking, the different performances between them make a new standard - IP over Satellite (IPoS) protocol come into being. The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) and International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has ratified IPoS protocol. Furthermore, it is the first global standard for the global satellite industry. The dissertation studies the protocol, and analyzes the throughput and delay performances of IPoS system. The paper ends with conclusions with characteristics/features of the IPoS protocol on the satellite IP network.Firstly, the paper briefly analyzes the existing satellite IP technology and introduces some solutions to satellite link with application of TCP/IP protocols. Secondly, the IPoS is introduced on the whole, including network architecture, protocol reference mode, and two key technologies: the hybrid ARQ error control and adaptive coding modulation. Meanwhile, the QoS standard specifically used in the dissertation is presented. After that, the paper explains the frame encapsulation, baseband processes of data bursts in inroute and outroute way. The principle of IPoS protocol is continually researched on those analyses. Finally, data results are acquired from the scheme of simulation model. The delay and throughput performance of IPoS protocols are analyzed, and compare the networking performance between IPoS system and DVB-RCS system.Simulation results reveal that IPoS protocol could solve the problem of high error bit rate with adoption of the error control scheme in the data link layer and adaptive coding modulation. Due to the demand-assigned MF-TDMA bandwidth allocation scheme, IPoS is able to support the reliable transmission service on data link layer, ensure the superior performance of throughput and delay, and effectively apply the TCP/IP protocol to the satellite link. |
