Given existing disadvantages of data transmission approaches based on the cable in the minefield, Bluetooth technology is selected to solve the difficulties of short distance after different short distance wireless communication technologies including 802.11b, HomeRF, IrDA, and the Bluetooth are analyzed. The Bluetooth technology is widely used because of its advanced technology, open and completed protocol, and low power cost etc. According to the need of minefield, several data transmission application models were established. And a scheme of system based on Bluetooth technology was presented in the paper. After analyzing the theory and protocol specification of the Bluetooth communication, RFCOMM protocol was studied in detail. A Bluetooth system model was established based on the Bluetooth Serial Port Application Framework, which replaced the serial cable. The hardware was designed based on the single-chip Bluetooth module from the CSR Company. The Bluetooth master device was composed of a PC and a Bluetooth communication unit. The slave one was based on microcontroller STC89C51. The hardware platform of system was built based on the Bluetooth devices to realize the point-to-point connection. The software arithmetic flow based on RFCOMM protocol was implemented. The whole system software was designed based on the Bluetooth Serial Port Application Framework. Furthermore, it was implemented on the hardware platform of the wireless data transmission system. The testing results showed that the RFCOMM service function of Bluetooth module was correct and perfect. It also showed that the system was stable and could achieve data transmission within 10 meters.
