This dissertation fully absorbs and applies current advanced volumetric display technology, introduces the advanced scene rendering techniques, and improves the realism of the scene. The viewers can view the three-dimensional images without glasses, and are personally on the scene.The application programming of the terrain engine is developmented based on the platform of Autostereoscopic display and software platform of Microsoft Visual Studio.NET 2003 and DirectX.This terrain engine should be displayed on Autostereoscopic display.The true 3D display technology based on Autostereoscopic display is researched. This paper does some research on the generation and simplification of 3D terrain model, and compares the advantages and disadvantages of the different methods, and then the Diamond _square algorithm is selected according to the requirement of the paper.The paper analyses the complex terrain model's real time and dynamic simplifying and multi-resolution display. This dissertation combines the technology of world-space partitioning,real-time rending and an improved ROAM algorithm to solve too many triangles rendering problem in large-scale terrain environment. By doing this, we improve the realism of the scene without reducing too much FPS. The scene rendering technologies including mapping of texture, generation of the sky, and simulation of fog are introduced. These technologies are applied to generate realistic scene.At last, this paper discusses the true 3D display of 3D Digital Terrain Based on Autostereoscopic display. The method of Pixel-Masking is applied. The whole 3D scene is real-time controlled by programming response keyboard to obtain realistic 3D effects.
