With the constant development of science and technology, the requirements of communication systems have become increasingly harsh. Apart from the needs to have good electrical performance, antenna can not debase aircraft aerodynamics performance. So it requires a good conformal structure between the antenna and vehicle; In the land equipment, microwave communication equipment need resist bad weather conditions and mechanical shock, and require the low profile, in order to camouflage himself. Therefore, the research about the conformal antenna has been hot. In recent years, conformal PBG (photonic band gap) structures gradually become focus in the microwave field. It is a new direction of development we use the conformal PBG structure in the conformal antenna. The paper researched the band gap characters of the conformal PBG structures, and designed a conformal microstrip antenna with conformal PBG structure. The dissertation is classified into five parts started as follows:Firstly, we enumerated the basic theory and the method of the research about PBG structure, the most popular of which is Bragg scatter method and the numerical method, and introduced the general steps of the design and research about PBGSecondly, we introduced the principle and method of design about microstrip antenna and the conformal microstrip antenna, and exoatiated on the way to implement.Thirdly, according to the basic principle of the gap structur ,we proposed a kind of PBG structure. Computed by High Frequency simulation software HFSS9.0, we achieved the character of Band Gap, and then, we analyzed its effect owing to the change of the parameters such as surface curvature , slotted mark-space ratio , dielectric constant and so on.Fourthly, we researched its applications in the conformal microstrip antenna. The PBG structure can control the propagation of the surface wave, minish the influence of the surface curvature, and increase the gain of the conformal microstrip antenna.Lastly, in order to minish the coupling among the conformal microstrip antenna arrays, we inserted conformal PBG structure among the moment of antenna arrays. It can restrain the surface wave and minish the coupling among the moments. The results of computing and testing both show its validity.
