The development of modern industry has a clear trend which shows that the equipments tend to be larger, faster as well as more continuous and automated, equipment failures will cause great loss. Therefore, modernized production put a higher demand about the reliability and safety of equipment operation. To ensure the efficient and safe production, it is necessary to enhance equipment operation management and implement online status monitoring, timely detection of abnormity is helpful for the prevention and early diagnosis of faults.The development of computer and network technology makes it possible and practical for the remote monitoring and fault diagnosis based on Internet, which contributes new meaning to this traditional technology. Man has no longer to be restricted to distance. Wherever he is, the operating states of the machines are available as long as he is on the Internet. The fault data is delivered to experts or remote expert system by network, then the results can be send back, so man's running about is replaced by the transferring of data through the network. By this way, the latest theory and technology can be applied to the actual production more easily.In this paper, the traditional remote monitoring and fault diagnosis techniques are discussed, the superiority of the remote monitoring and fault analysis system based on B/S model is analyzed. Using object oriented method, COM/DCOM and ActiveX technology, ASP.NET technology as well as the database access technology, this paper gives an analysis and design about the system components and frameworks, user access control management and implementation program, then develops SLL remote state monitoring and fault analysis system. On one hand, the system implements remote state monitoring, the other hand, it also provides fault analysis maps in forms of time domain and frequency domain waveform map for expert analysis and fault diagnosis. The system has been on trial in a petrochemical company, and has achieved good results.Research results of this paper enrichs the equipment state monitoring and fault diagnosis theory and methods, it also provides experience accumulation for the subsequent study and exploration. However, the remote monitoring and fault diagnosis is a complex system science which involves many study fields. Much work needs to be improved further.
